[Brief description] It is located in southwestern South America, at the western foot of the Andes Mountains. Bolivia and Argentina border it to the east, Peru to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and Antarctica to the south. The total length of the coastline is about 10,000 kilometers. It is the narrowest and longest country in the world, with a length of 4,352 kilometers from north to south and a width of 96.8-362.3 kilometers from east to west. The country is volcanic and has frequent earthquakes. The climate varies significantly from region to region:In the north, there is a tropical desert climate with no rain all year round. The center has a subtropical Mediterranean climate with rainy winters and dry summers. The south has a rainy, temperate, broad-leaved forest and frigid steppe climate.

Initially inhabited by the Araucanians, Mapuche, Tierra del Fuego, and other Indians, the country belonged to the Inca Empire before the beginning of the 16th century. In 1535, the Spanish colonizers invaded the northern part of Chile from Peru, and the city of Santiago was founded in 1541, making Chile a Spanish colony. The Ruling Council was set up on September 18, 1810, to implement self-government. After that, the Chilean people, led by the national hero Bernardo O'Higgins, fought against colonial rule and defeated the Spanish colonial army with the Argentinean allies in February 1817. They declared independence in 1818. In 1973, the military, led by Pinochet, overthrew Allende's government and came to power, beginning a 17-year-long military rule. 1989, the Socialist Party, the Christian Democratic Party, and other parties formed the "Coalition for Democracy" to participate in parliamentary and presidential elections. The CDI's Irving was elected president and came to power on March 11 of the following year, thus restoring representative democracy. CDIer Frey succeeded him in March 1994, and in 1998, Pinochet handed over military power, basically completing the "democratic transition." Over the next 20 years, the ruling coalition of center-left parties had four governments, and the political situation remained stable for a long time; in January 2010, Piñera, the presidential candidate of the center-right coalition, won the general election and was inaugurated in March 2010. In December 2013, Bachelet, the center-left Alliance for a New Majority (AMP) candidate, won the general election and was inaugurated in March 2014. In December 2017, Piñera, the candidate of the center-right coalition Chile Forward, was re-elected president and took office in March 2018. In December 2021, Borich, the candidate of the emerging left-wing coalition Constitutional Dignity, was elected president and took office in March 2021, and in December 2021, the candidate of the emerging left-wing coalition Constitutional Dignity was re-elected president.
