On November 8, the 2024 China-Latin America and the Caribbean sustainable Food Innovation Forum and Opening Ceremony of China-Latin America and the caribbean sustainable Food Innovation Center were held in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City. With the theme of "Building a Platform for Sustainable Food Innovation and Development in China and Latin America to Ensure Global Food Security," the forum featured discussions on topics such as biological seed industry, agricultural big science initiatives, and sustainable agricultural development. The event attracted approximately 200 guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hainan Provincial People's Government, embassies and consulates of Latin American countries, as well as Chinese and Latin American research institutions, universities, and enterprises. Zhang Fanjing, the project director of the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center (CLTTC), and the delegation was invited to attend this activity.

At the forum, Qiu Yong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, expressed that China and Latin America are good friends and partners for mutual development based on equality and mutual benefit. He put forward three hopes for the China-Latin America Sustainable Food Innovation Center: Firstly, to become a model for South-South Cooperation; secondly, to build a bridge for deepening friendship and enrich the connotation of China-Latin America scientific and technological cooperation; and thirdly, to construct an innovation cooperation network for sustainable food development and contribute to building a China-Latin America community with a shared future.

Qiu Xiaoqi, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs, also emphasized that food security is a major issue of common concern for both China and Latin America. He expressed that both sides will continue to promote sustainable development, contribute to deepening and substantiating the construction of the China-Latin America community with a shared future, and bring more well-being to the people of China and Latin America.

Adhering to the cooperative philosophy of openness and inclusiveness, the CLTTC will take “Belt and Road” international cooperation as a link to actively engage in China-Latin America scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges, outlining a broad blueprint for a bright future of China-Latin America technological innovation cooperation.
